About Nichola Eddery

Atelier

Nichola Eddery Atelier was founded by Nichola herself; a professional and exhibiting artist. Over several years Miss Eddery has studied under many leading classical art teachers at ateliers in Italy, France, and the USA. During and since her studies, she has exhibited in London and internationally. On moving to London in 2017, Nichola has designed a variety of workshops and short courses, offering her unique traditional drawing programs in London's most renowned museums. Nichola also offers live online courses and private drawing and painting tuition through her home studio, live online lessons and museum lessons at the V&A

Nichola Eddery Atelier workshops, short courses, private tuition, and live online lessons are designed for all levels of drawing experience, including the complete beginner.  Nichola welcomes adults of all ages as well as children , to learn and draw from classical antiquity in The British Museum, sculptures in the V&A and Old Masters paintings in The National Gallery, Bargue Plates for live online courses and a variety of subjects for private tuition. The half and full-day workshops are designed for people eager in learning introductory stages in traditional drawing. The short courses and block-bookings are intended for those who wish to receive a more informed and intensive drawing programme. Through private tuition Nichola can teach all the stages of traditional drawing and painting.

Nichola's drawing lessons offer a unique blend of classical training and are intended to enable her to share her knowledge of the fundamental principles involved in traditional techniques. Through a step-by-step methodology, Miss Eddery will provide demonstrations and exercises to give students the ability to learn the vital stages of drawing. This includes how to start a drawing and learn how to achieve a clearer understanding of proportion, structure, gesture, form, value, light and shadow, through line and tonal gradation. The class exercises will help students to understand these concepts to enable them to work towards an informed and developed drawing, intended to make their draftsmanship considerably stronger. After all, drawing is the foundation to all artistic disciplines and constitutes to three-quarters of a painting

Nearly every great painter from the past was trained and many would have drawn from ancient sculpture and their predecessors in museums along side their studio practice. From Nichola's own training she knows the importance of continually learning and drawing from classical antiquity and old master sculpture, drawings and paintings. London has an abundance of these treasures and through these works, she believes her programs will not only give her students the skills and ability to become a stronger draftsman, but the confidence to return to museums to continue their own practice and inquiries from masterpieces.

If you wish to progress to painting, Nichola offers private private painting lessons and in the near future will run online and in-person painting workshops.
